Hell

[Part of the poem pair series “Heaven and Hell.”)

Lilith’s hands
Grip my face
And I Stumble
into place,
Standing
With the room
Spinning
Vertigo, dizzy.

Long lost lover, Lenore
Ravenous for a bite of
Edgar Allen Poet
Jesus of Suburbia
From Baltimore
The same, nevermore.

Succumbing
To Succubus
My blood, your sustenance
My teeth on bruised flesh
Two-pronged love bites
and no need for sleep
But when you’re sitting in my lap
looking down at me
I’m waiting for gospel to
drip down from your lips
into mine
Sweet Aphrodite.

It’s blood on the dance floor
Pull me in under like
The Cask of Amantillado
Unfortunate Fortunado;
Jester caught in a
Macabre performance
Of vice, revenge
and romance.
Webs of fate
Spun into silk sheets
By the Black Widow
Ancient catacombs
Old lovers’ skulls and bones
As above, so below.

God, please
wash away my sins
Despite temptation,
You know my intentions.
Each stake, a nail for the coffin
Jesus bleeding on the cross
Treasonous against
Empire’s oppression
Yet hearts blinded
To age old
American lynching.
You mourn the dead
But show no love
for the living.

It was a dream to lie with you.
But a Nightmare
When you went in for the kill.
I felt Heaven with you,
And woke up in Hell.
